Graduate Marine Engineering (GME)
Graduate Marine Engineering (GME) Course is a one year Pre sea Training course for Graduates those who have completed BE /B Tech in Mechanical Engineering or Naval Architecture. GME is a course leading to Class IV Marine Engineer Officer Certificate of competency, awarded by the ministry of shipping Government of India, after six months of sea service, enabling the cadets to become Marine Engineers on board Merchant Navy Vessels (Ships) anywhere in the world. GME Course is the gateway for Mechanical & Naval Architecture Graduates to enter into Merchant Navy.
GME Course Eligibility.
A Candidate should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical & Automation Engineering after attending a course of 4 years duration from an UGC recognized University and or approved by AICTE, with a minimum marks of 50% in the final year; and a minimum 50% marks in English language at the 10th or 12th standard or in Degree Examination.

GME COURSE FEES:
GME Course fees vary from Institute to Institute. GME course fees lies between 3lakhs – 5 lakhs per year.
GME Salary: 500$-10000$(30000INR-600000INR)
Initially as a GME Engine cadet receives a stipend of 500$ for six months, Once cadet clears the Class IV certificate of competency cadet gets promoted to Fourth Engineer and receives a salary of 3000$ and further clearing the certificate of competencies after required sea time cadet gets promoted upto Chief Engineer(salary-$10000).
About Shipping Company Sponsorship Test
Some reputed shipping companies organize Sponsorship Test and select candidates for Sponsorship. Basically “Sponsorship” is Job, Placement & Training assurance in WRITTEN given to a candidate who successfully clears all the phases of “Sponsorship Test” organized by any D.G Shipping Licensed shipping company.
Generally “Sponsorship Test” is conducted in 3 Phases as follows:
- Written Offline/Online Test
- Psychometric/16 PF Test
- Personal Interview & Medical Examination (By D.G Approved Doctor)
